BAICE at the 2017 UKFIET Conference

BAICE is proud to co-host the UKFIET International Conference on Learning and Teaching for Sustainable Development every other year.

The UKFIET Conference 2017 was of special significance to BAICE as it marked the beginning of the Association’s 20th anniversary celebrations. A number of BAICE related activities were scheduled for BAICE Day on Wednesday 6th September:

8.30-10.30am Compare editors hosted a Workshop for reviewers and authors.
11am Current BAICE President, Professor Pauline Rose, presented a ‘masterclass‘ with Mike Wamaya, top ten finalist for the 2017 Global Teacher Prize, providing insights into his inspiring work as a teacher of ballet to disadvantaged children in Kibera slums in Nairobi, Kenya. See our dance-off in the video below!

13.30pm Past BAICE President, Professor Kenneth King chaired a symposium following the BBC Question Time format for debate and discussion of issues relating to the overarching theme of the conference. We were delighted to have invited three distinguished scholars to form the specialist panel: Professors Keith Lewin, Fazal Rizvi and Michele Schweisfurth. You can catch up on the discussion on the twitter hashtag #BAICEQT.
15.30pm Professor Pauline Rose then gave the Plenary BAICE Presidential AddressInclusive Quality Education for All: Is the World on Track?
17.30pm The BAICE Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place at New College. All BAICE members were warmly invited to attend the AGM, to hear the reports and join the discussions. At the meeting we pointed out that BAICE membership is not limited to those who reside in the UK and there are many benefits of joining! We have a wide range of membership benefits including research funding opportunities, conference bursaries, Compare Writers’ Workshops and a Fellows scheme, and prizes, grants and events for PhD students and early career scholars.
18.30 Finally BAICE invited all conference participants to join us in a celebratory and well-deserved Drinks Reception at New College.

I hope you enjoyed the UKFIET conference, and look forward to seeing you at the BAICE Conference in York in 2018!

Best wishes,
