The 36th International Standing Conference for the History of Education (ISCHE) on the theme of ‘Education, War and Peace’, will be held at the Institute of Education, University of London, 23-26 July 2014.
Timed to coincide with the the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, the conference will address relationships between education and war, and also the role of education in fostering peace.
Keynote speakers include Jay Winter, JoAnn McGregor, Zvi Bekerman and Michalinos Zembylas and a keynote panel on teaching the Holocaust featuring Eckhart Fuchs, Simone Schweber, Alice Pettigrew and Stuart Foster.
The social and cultural programme includes a morning visit to the Imperial War Museum and a conference dinner at the Russell Hotel.
Accompanying the conference is a new exhibition on Education, War and Peace which will display materials from the Newsam Library and Archives.
Special workshop sessions for postgraduate students will be held.
The call for papers for individual papers or panels of 3 papers is now open.
