Message from the BAICE Chair, Dr Caroline Dyer

Please be sure to join us this September in Oxford as BAICE holds its annual conference every other year within the UKFIET International Conference on Education and Development. We have a number of activities planned, to which you are warmly welcome.  Many BAICE members are making contributions to the conference across all sub-themes and within symposia and round tables. Some of these presentations will be made in the BAICE sponsored session room on the ground floor (room 7).

BAICE/Compare are pleased to once again be organising the Compare Writers Workshop. The programme consists of an all day workshop, to be held at New College, Oxford on September 9th 2013, 10 am until 4pm, followed by individual mentoring by experienced peer reviewers for Compare.  There is a separate application form and £20.00 registration fee for this workshop.  Please see our events page for more details.

On Wednesday 11 September, I will chair the conference plenary session at the Oxford Examination Schools from 4:00 – 5:30.  During the plenary our President, Professor Elaine Unterhalter, will give the BAICE Presidential Address.  Elaine’s address is titled ‘Walking backwards into the future: A comparative perspective on education and the post 2015 framework’.

We will then change venue to New College for some evening activities.  The BAICE AGM will be held in Lecture Room 6 from 6:00 – 7:30 at which our Executive Committee will be updating you on the past year’s activities and plans for the 2013-14 year.  BAICE Secretary, Lizzi Milligan will be emailing BAICE Members with the AGM agenda in advance of the conference.  We will also be formally voting in our new Ordinary Member(s).  Be sure to participate in the current elections if you are a current member.

Our BAICE Student Representatives, Sajjad and Helen, have planned an Open Student Forum for 8:30 – 9:30 on the same evening.  You may attend the BAICE AGM and the Open Student Forum at New College without being registered for the UKFIET Conference.  One day registration is also available, should you wish to attend all of Wednesday’s programming but are unable to attend the entire conference.  Please remember that BAICE is offering a £30.00 reduction for its members.

Throughout the conference, our Membership Secretary, Julia Paulson, along with other members of the Executive Committee, will be available at the BAICE table in the main conference exhibition area.  Please stop by to say hello, check your BAICE membership details and renew your membership for the year.

We hope you will join us for these activities and we look forward to seeing you in Oxford this September.

Caroline Dyer, BAICE Chair
