Sulochini Pather

Sulochini Pather’s experience in Education spans over 30 years. She currently holds the position of Professor of Education at Leeds Trinity University where she’s leading on Research and Knowledge Exchange in the Institute of Childhood and Education. She began her journey as a teacher in primary, secondary and special schools in South Africa and England. She was Professor of Inclusive Education at Nazarbayev University (NU) in Kazakhstan, Principal and Senior Lecturer at several universities in the UK, including Roehampton University, Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), University of East London, and Warwick University. She also taught at universities in Oman, Australia and South Africa. She served as Programme Director for MA and EdD programmes in Inclusive Education and chaired the Special and Inclusive Education Research (SIERG) group at CCCU and Inclusive Education Research (IERG) Group at NU. Through her teaching, research and consultancy work, she has worked with local and international agencies, developing collaborative networks with local Ministries of Education and Higher Education Institutions in a range of countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. She has extensive research experience which focuses on the inclusion and exclusion of marginalised groups of learners, including children with disabilities and special needs, from minority ethnic groups and migrant communities. She has published widely in international peer-reviewed journals, books and presented papers at 22 high-profile conferences in the field of Education, including 3 keynotes. She is on the editorial board of the International Journal of Inclusive Education, the Asia Journal of Inclusive Education and Disability and Society.
