This post is normally for a period of two years, renewable for one further term of office. The Vice-Chair is expected to have a demonstrated commitment to furthering the aims and scope of BAICE, namely to:

  • promote research, policy and development in all aspects of international and comparative education; and
  • encourage the growth and development of international and comparative studies in education.

The post is voluntary, and a time commitment is required to: attend three Executive Committee meetings a year (where possible); attend the BAICE AGM during the BAICE/UKFIET conferences in September; and to undertake related activities. The Vice-Chair plays a crucial role on the Executive Committee, undertaking a range of roles to support and promote BAICE, and is expected to work closely with the Chair. In particular, s/he is expected to play a leadership role in relation to BAICE’s funding-related activities.

The Vice-Chair benefits from excellent networking opportunities within a thriving and dynamic Association as well as full voting rights on the Executive Committee. Expenses for attendance at BAICE events are reimbursed.

To be eligible, the candidate must have at least five years of experience as a UK-based academic, and it is desirable that s/he has also engaged actively with BAICE in the past, for example as a member of its Executive Committee. BAICE Vice Chair will serve as a trustee of BAICE.

To make a nomination, please send the following to the BAICE Support Officer, Dr Nozomi Sakata, supportofficer@baice.ac.uk, by midnight on Friday 31st May 2024:

With best wishes,

The BAICE Executive Committee
