New College, Oxford

The BAICE AGM was held at New College, Oxford on 16th September. Many thanks to all the members, who joined us.

Changes to the BAICE Exec

We thanked the BAICE officers, who give their time voluntarily to the association. Special thanks go to outgoing officers. Michael Crossley and Terra Sprague have turned the web into a hub for our communications and its online archive into a valuable open access resource. Lizzi Milligan, the outgoing Secretary,  has kept the wheels of the BAICE exec turning smoothly and Julia Paulson, the outgoing Membership Secretary, has steadily increased our membership.
Over the last year, we have welcomed three ordinary members on the committee –  Alison Buckler o(The Open University), Tingting Yuan (Liverpool Hope University) and Eleanor Brown (University of York). Arif Naveed (Cambridge University) has joined us as a student representative. Anneke Newman (University of Sussex) is taking on the role of Secretary. The AGM welcomed them into their new roles.

Compare Editors

The Compare Editors were  thanked for their hard work. Nitya Rao (University of East Anglia), Paul Morris (UCL Institute of Education) and Yusuf Sayed (University of Sussex), have overseen the journal as it has consolidated its position in the SSCI rankings and continued to provide BAICE with financial security. Paul and Yusuf are now stepping down. Paul has contributed extensively on management of Special Issues, and to negotiations with the publisher that have secured a favourable (for BAICE) contract for the next six years. Yusuf has  innovated the Compare Forum, a now widely read and significant aspect of Compare.
They will be replaced by Germ Janmaat and Tristan McCowan (both UCL Institute of Education), who were warmly welcomed into their new roles.

Honorary Members join us at UKFIET Conference

BAICE has a longstanding tradition of showing its appreciation to individuals, who have made a significant contribution to the field of international and comparative education and to the association, through awarding them honorary life membership. This was the first year that BAICE showed its appreciation to honorary members through financially supporting their participation in the UKFIET conference. They repaid us handsomely with their sparky engagement both at the conference and the AGM. We look forward to their participation at future conferences.

Happy Birthday CIES

We send our congratulations to the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES), USA – celebrating 60 years since its inception.
