BAICE Executive Committee – Call for Applications

Posted on 30/10/2023 By BAICE

BAICE is calling for applications  for two Executive Committee Members. (1) Student Representative – November 20th deadline  and (2) BAICE Ordinary Member – November 27th deadline.

Call for Applications: BAICE Student Representative

Are you passionate about representing your fellow students? Do you feel you have a contribution to make to international and comparative education? Then, we would like to hear from you!

We are looking for a new BAICE Student Representative who will join the BAICE Executive Committee in December 2023 until December 2025, to work alongside our current Student Representative, Surya Deka. The commitment involves attending three Executive Committee Meetings each year and the BAICE/ UKFIET conference; the organisation of the BAICE Early Career Researchers event; fielding inquiries from BAICE student members and representing their needs to the Executive; and aiding in the organisation of additional student-led initiatives as appropriate. While this is a voluntary role, it is an exciting and interesting challenge, and a great networking opportunity for anyone involved in international and/or comparative education.

Please be aware that in addition to two Student Representatives BAICE also has a larger Student Committee to aid in the organisation of student-led activities. If you are not elected as a Student Rep. on this particular occasion, you could still consider being a part of this Committee.

Applicants for this role should be PhD students who are currently enrolled in a UK higher education institution. They should send a CV (maximum of 2 pages) outlining their research interests together with a 1-page (maximum) cover letter explaining what they think BAICE could do for students and how their experience is relevant to this role. We especially welcome applications that include your ideas about how BAICE could more actively and inclusively engage diverse student members.  Please also state whether you wish to be considered for the Student Committee if your application for Student Rep is unsuccessful. To be eligible, you must either be a current member of BAICE or be willing to join the Association should you be elected. It is expected that the role will be undertaken from the UK as it will involve travelling to and attending events on behalf of BAICE. Therefore, while we welcome applications from students with less than two years of their degree remaining, we ask that these applicants outline their plans for being able to continue in the role beyond the completion of their degree.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Monday 20th November 2023. Please email your application to the BAICE Secretary at secretary@baice.ac.uk. For more information about the role, please contact Surya Deka and Emma Jackson at students@baice.ac.uk.

Call for Applications: BAICE Ordinary Member

BAICE is currently seeking to appoint an Ordinary Member. Ordinary Members sit on the BAICE Executive Committee, and the role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the organisation and strategic direction of a thriving and respected academic association.

In this round, we especially welcome applications with a specialist interest in comparative education and/or with an interest or expertise in communicating research.

The initial term of office is three years, but can be renewed for a second term.

The core responsibilities of the Ordinary Member are:

  • To attend three Executive Committee meetings a year and the BAICE AGM during the BAICE/UKFIET conferences;
  • To support other committee members in evaluating applications for one or more of the BAICE funding opportunities;
  • To contribute skills and insights to the Executive Committee across a range of BAICE activities and initiatives

The benefits of the role include:

  • Excellent networking opportunities within a thriving and dynamic Association;
  • The opportunity to conceptualise, develop and run initiatives to promote intellectual work in the field of international and comparative education
  • Meeting and maintaining communication with academics and project / donor staff doing interesting work around the world;
  • Full voting rights on the Executive Committee;
  • BAICE is a professional association and so the position can be included on your CV.

The Ordinary Member is expected to have the following skills:

To have a demonstrated commitment to furthering the aims and scope of BAICE, namely:

  • promote research, policy and development in international and comparative education; and
    • encourage the growth and development of international and comparative studies in education.

How to apply:

To be eligible, you must be a member of BAICE or can commit to becoming a member if appointed. In addition, applicants must either be nominated by a BAICE member, or should include the name and contact details of a BAICE member who can support the application.

Please provide a CV (maximum of 2 pages) and a 1-page (maximum) explanation of how your experience and skills fit the role description and how you could potentially contribute as an Ordinary Member. Applications must be sent to the BAICE Support Officer at supportofficer@baice.ac.uk by Monday 27th November 2023.

You are also welcome to direct informal enquiries to the BAICE Chair, Dr Tejendra Pherali (chair@baice.ac.uk).

With best wishes,
The BAICE Executive Committee
