New BAICE Executive Committee Members

At the BAICE AGM last week, the Executive Committee was delighted to welcome and introduce two new Ordinary Members. Professor Sulochini Pather is from Leeds Trinity University, and Dr Jack Lee is from the University of Edinburgh.

The BAICE Chair, Dr Tejendra Pherali, also introduced our first ever BAICE International Co-opted Member. Dr Dilrabo Jonbekova is from Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan. This role is central to shaping BAICE’s international strategy, and becoming more inclusive of and relevant for our growing global membership.

Of course, these exciting new appointments also mean that we must say goodbye to those who have come to the end of their term on the Executive Committee.

Dr Eleanor Brown from the University of York, and Dr Tingting Yuan from Bath Spa University have both served two terms as Ordinary Members. During this time they have made immense contributions to BAICE strategy and activity. Eleanor was Chair of the hugely successful and memorable BAICE 2018 Conference in York and worked across multiple grant panels. Tingting has chaired the Student Fieldwork Grant and also worked on the conference bursary panel for many years. They have left a legacy of rigour, fairness and constructive feedback in this area of BAICE’s work. It is often said that the BAICE Exec feels like a family, and Eleanor and Tingting will be much missed.

Finally, our BAICE Student Rep Dorothy Ferary is coming to the end of her term. The BAICE Student Committee goes from strength to strength and is central to BAICE’s vision. Over the past year Dorothy and Emma Jackson have led a packed agenda of exciting and engaging events for our student members, in spite of the pandemic. We will shortly be advertising for the new Student Rep, so watch this space!
