Call for Applications: BAICE Support Officer

BAICE is a professional association promoting teaching, research, policy and development in all aspects of international and comparative education. Our members are academics, researchers, policy makers and members of governmental and non-governmental organisations. BAICE is the British affiliate of the World Council of Comparative Education Societies, but membership is open to all interested in international and comparative education, regardless of nationality or institutional affiliation.

BAICE oversees small grants and awards portfolio aimed at fostering innovation and excellence in the field of international and comparative education. These grants support a wide range of projects, from seedcorn grants to developmental fellowships to early career scholars who are based in low-income countries. It hosts a biennial conference, as well as other seminars and events across the year. It has an active Student Committee that leads on events designed to specifically engage early career researchers.

BAICE is formally known as BAICE LTD: a non-profit organisation registered as a limited company in England No. 13564154 with Registered Charity No. 1198916. It has a Board of Trustees which oversees BAICE LTD’s portfolio of activities. BAICE LTD has a volunteer Executive Committee and Student Committee which manage the delivery of the portfolio.

BAICE is seeking a new Support Officer to support the Trustees, the Executive Committee, the day-to-day running of the association, and specific events and activities where required. The Support Officer is responsible for:

  • Working with the Vice Chair on the grants portfolio, organising funding applications and keeping track of funded projects. This element of the role also involves liaising with the Treasurer and Financial Manager;
  • Working with the Membership Secretary to manage the BAICE membership database;
  • Working with the Communications Officer to promote BAICE activities through different channels;
  • Working with the Secretary to support with BAICE documentation and records;
  • Working with the Student Representatives to support their events; and
  • Supporting additional administrative tasks that are assigned by the BAICE Chair.

The workload is between 3-10 hours a week, depending on the time of year. This can be undertaken flexibly, from home. There will be minimal face-to-face working required. This is a paid role offering £25 per hour.

Applicants must have administrative experience, including experience of managing complex processes and databases; attention to detail; the ability to communicate via email and online in a professional manner; experience of working with sensitive data (experience with GDPR policies will be an advantage); and the ability to work proactively while working remotely.
